Bodegas, Disaster Relief, and Mattress Mack

Mattress Mack

Jim McIngvale, better known as “Mattress Mack”, is the owner of Gallery Furniture, a popular furniture store in Houston, Texas. As long as I can remember he has been synonymous with the fast-paced TV commercial pitch followed by, “Gallery Furniture saves you money today”. In 2017, he rose to culturally greater heights when he opened his stores to refugees during the historic flooding from Hurricane Harvey. In an economy that is focused on the bottom line, his efforts to shelter his community in his own business will forever cement him as a local legend.

Disasters in Houston

In my lifetime I have seen hurricanes (both wind and flooding events), tornados, ice storms, and brownouts severely affect the metro area and in some cases the state. What is otherwise taken for granted, loss of power (and AC), water, and shelter can lead to a subsequent loss of food or goods or in some cases personal evacuation from your home.
